Convert pixels to millimeters at any DPI
Enter a value in pixels, set the DPI resolution, and read the result in millimeters. Check how large a camera file, a web image, or a Figma export would physically be once printed. A file 1,200 px wide, for example, is 101.6 millimeters at 300 DPI. At 96 DPI, 300 px is 79.38 mm.
Why convert pixels to millimeters?
A pixel is a digital unit that describes a single point on a screen or in an image file. The millimeter, on the other hand, describes physical size — print shops specify business card, flyer, and bleed dimensions in millimeters. To convert one to the other, you need to know the DPI resolution: the number of pixels packed into one inch of material or screen.
This conversion is used by designers checking how large their project will physically be once printed, photographers judging whether a camera file is large enough for a specific format, and anyone who designs in pixels in Figma or Photoshop but has to deliver a file with an exact physical dimension.
Further down this page you will find an extensive reference table for popular pixel values, a table running from the resolution of a finished file to the format on paper, and short guides on reading a file's real resolution in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, PDF, Figma, CorelDRAW, Canva, Inkscape, Affinity, and EXIF data.

How does px to mm conversion work? Formula and example
The whole conversion comes down to one formula, based on the fixed relationship between an inch and a millimeter: one inch is exactly 25.4 mm. So you just multiply the number of pixels by 25.4 and divide by your chosen DPI resolution.
The full formula is: millimeters = pixels × 25.4 ÷ DPI.
Example: say you want to know how many millimeters 1,063 pixels are at a print resolution of 300 DPI. Plugging the values into the formula gives 1,063 × 25.4 ÷ 300, which comes to about 90 mm, the width of a 90 × 50 mm business card. The same 1,063 pixels displayed on a 96 DPI screen would take up about 281 mm, because a screen packs fewer pixels into each inch. The CSS standard ties 96 CSS pixels to one inch, which is why the same file measures differently in a browser than in print.[1]
Starting a design from scratch with a size in millimeters? That direction belongs to the millimeters to pixels converter.
When the file is bound for an American print shop, the same measurement is quoted in inches: 2,550 pixels at 300 DPI is 8.5 inches, the width of a Letter sheet. The pixels to inches converter handles that.
Print shops and typesetting software state the size of the type itself in typographic points. One point is 0.3528 mm, so a 12-point type size occupies 4.23 mm. The pixels to points converter moves a mock-up measurement into that unit.

How do you check a file's real resolution in millimeters?
InDesign and effective PPI
Open Window › Links and expand the image you care about. InDesign shows two figures: Actual PPI is the resolution of the source file, while Effective PPI is the resolution after scaling on the page. Only the second one counts. A 300 PPI photo scaled to 50% has an effective 600 PPI and is fine, but blown up to 200% it drops to 150 PPI and the print shop may reject it.Illustrator
Document dimensions live in File › Document Setup, and a single object's in the Transform panel. You change the unit in Edit › Preferences › Units. Embedded raster images carry their own resolution independent of the document, which you check in the Links panel.Photoshop
Open Image › Image Size and switch the unit to millimeters. Clear Resample, and changing the Resolution field then recalculates the physical size without touching the pixels. Type 300 there and you see how many millimeters your file gives in print at that density.PDF and preflight
In Acrobat the page size sits in File › Properties › Description, under Page Size. The Preflight tool additionally checks the resolution of embedded images and flags those below a threshold.Figma
Figma works purely in pixels and has no DPI setting. To see a frame’s width in millimeters at 96 DPI, divide it by 96 and multiply by 25.4. When exporting for print set the scale to 3.125×, which is the ratio of 300 to 96.CorelDRAW
Click an empty spot on the page and the property bar shows the page size, with the Units list right next to the width and height fields. Select an embedded bitmap and the status bar at the bottom of the window shows its type and resolution.Canva
A size in millimeters goes in when you create a design: click Custom size on the homepage and pick mm under Units. Changing the size of an existing design needs a paid plan. When the design is going to print, pick PDF Print at download time: Canva exports that file at 300 DPI.Inkscape and Affinity
Inkscape reports the page size under File › Document Properties (Shift + Ctrl + D), with separate settings for the size unit and the display unit shown on the rulers. Affinity has been a single app since version 3 and shows the document size together with its DPI under Document › Setup › Document Setup. Both apps store the physical size inside the file, so the same artwork opened later reports the same millimeters.Camera files and EXIF data
Cameras write a resolution value into EXIF, for example 72 DPI, whatever the quality of the shot. Print size is decided by the pixel count alone: a 24 Mpx sensor gives 6,000 × 4,000 px, which is 508 × 338.67 mm at 300 DPI. Larger formats read more easily in centimeters, which is what the pixels to centimeters converter gives you.

When do you need a file measured in millimeters?
Checking camera photos for print
You know your camera sensor produces files at 6,000 × 4,000 px. The converter shows that at 300 DPI, that is 508 × 338.67 mm — comfortably enough for an A3 print (297 × 420 mm). You can also check the lower limit: how large a smaller file from a phone or a web image would print.Exporting from Figma or Photoshop for print
You designed a flyer in Figma as a 1,169 × 2,480 px artboard and want to know whether that matches a standard DL format. The converter shows that at 300 DPI, that is about 99 × 210 mm, one third of an A4 sheet — the size DL envelopes of 110 × 220 mm are built around.Checking files before sending them to a print shop
You received a file with a width of 2,480 px from a client and do not know what format that is. The converter shows that at 300 DPI, that is about 210 mm — the width of an A4 sheet — so you know which format the client has in mind.Business cards
A business card saved as an image has its size in pixels, while print shops quote the card in millimeters. At 300 DPI a 1,050 × 600 px file is 88.9 × 50.8 mm, the 3.5 × 2 in US business card, and 1,004 × 650 px gives about 85 × 55 mm, the European card.

Frequently asked questions about px to mm conversion
How many millimeters is 1 pixel?
It depends entirely on the resolution you set. At the standard 96 DPI screen resolution, one pixel is about 0.265 mm, and at the 300 DPI used for print, only 0.085 mm. To convert any number of pixels to millimeters, multiply it by 25.4 and divide by the DPI.
What is the formula for converting px to mm?
The formula comes from a fixed relationship: one inch is exactly 25.4 mm. The full formula is millimeters = pixels × 25.4 ÷ DPI. It also works in reverse: pixels = millimeters × DPI ÷ 25.4. You only need two values — the pixel count and the target resolution — to calculate the third.
How do I convert pixels to millimeters?
The simplest way is to type the pixel count into the converter field and pick the DPI you need — the result appears instantly. If you would rather calculate it by hand, use the formula: millimeters = pixels × 25.4 ÷ DPI. For 500 px at 300 DPI, you get 500 × 25.4 ÷ 300, or about 42.33 mm.
How many millimeters is 100 pixels?
One hundred pixels on a 96 DPI screen is about 26.46 mm. At 300 DPI print resolution, the same 100 pixels only takes up 8.47 mm, and at 600 DPI just 4.23 mm. The same values in centimeters come from the pixels to centimeters converter.
How many millimeters is 500 pixels?
Five hundred pixels is about 132.29 mm on a 96 DPI screen and 42.33 mm at 300 DPI print resolution.
How many millimeters is 1,000 pixels?
One thousand pixels at 96 DPI is about 264.58 mm. At 300 DPI print resolution, the same 1,000 pixels is 84.67 mm — enough for a large label or a small photo. At 150 DPI, it comes out to 169.33 mm.
What are the dimensions in millimeters of a file that is 2,480 pixels wide?
A file that is 2,480 pixels wide at 300 DPI is about 210 mm — the width of an A4 sheet. With a height of 3,508 px (297 mm) the file matches a full A4 page. At 96 DPI the same width is 656.17 mm, more than the roughly 53 cm width of a 24-inch Full HD monitor. In inches that width is 8.27 in, as the pixels to inches converter shows.
How many millimeters is a 6,000-pixel photo from a camera?
Six thousand pixels is the long edge of a photo from a 24-megapixel camera. At 300 DPI used for photo printing, that comes out to 508 mm — comfortably enough for an A3 print (297 × 420 mm). If the photo has a 3:2 ratio, the other edge is 4,000 px, or 338.67 mm. For prints wider than a meter, the pixels to meters converter gives the width in meters.
What is bleed and how many millimeters does it correspond to in pixels?
Bleed is the margin around the design that is trimmed off after printing. Subtract twice the bleed from the file dimension and you get the trimmed format. A file 1,133 px wide at 300 DPI is 95.9 mm, so taking off two 3 mm bleeds leaves 89.9 mm, a 90 mm business card. If the subtraction lands on a size that matches no standard format, the file may have arrived without bleed.
How do I set px to mm in Figma?
Figma works exclusively in pixels and has no DPI setting or millimeter unit. To check a Figma project's physical dimensions, copy the pixel count from the Design panel and type it into our converter, setting your target DPI (96 for screen, 300 for print).
What is the exact size of a payment card in millimeters?
The ISO ID-1 standard, which applies to payment cards, ID cards, and driving licenses, is exactly 85.60 × 53.98 mm.[2] A file of 1,011 × 638 px at 300 DPI hits that standard to a tenth of a millimeter.
How many millimeters is a pixel on a Retina screen?
Retina displays pack pixels more than twice as densely as a regular monitor – the 13.6-inch MacBook Air is rated at 224 pixels per inch. One physical pixel there measures about 0.113 mm, while on a 96 DPI monitor it measures 0.265 mm. Graphics for such screens are prepared at twice the pixel count and, following Apple’s naming convention, exported with the @2x suffix.
Is 1 pixel the same as 1 millimeter?
No. A pixel and a millimeter are two different units — one digital, one physical — and the relationship between them changes with the DPI resolution. At the standard 96 DPI screen, one pixel is about 0.265 mm, while at 300 DPI print resolution it is only 0.085 mm. There is no single fixed value that applies universally.
What pixel dimensions does a business card have, and how many millimeters is that?
A US business card at 1,050 × 600 px is exactly 88.9 × 50.8 mm at 300 DPI, the 3.5 × 2 in standard. A European business card at 1,004 × 650 px is 85 × 55 mm at the same resolution. After adding a 3 mm bleed on every edge, the European card grows to 91 × 61 mm, or about 1,075 × 720 px. Starting from millimeters instead, the millimeters to pixels converter gives the pixel count for any card size.
How do I set pixels to millimeters in Illustrator or InDesign?
In Adobe Illustrator, go to Edit › Preferences › Units and choose Millimeters — the unit changes across all panels and rulers immediately. InDesign has the same setting under Edit › Preferences › Units & Increments. In both programs, the pixel count of an exported image depends on the resolution you set, for example 300 DPI for print. You will find detailed guides for Illustrator, InDesign, CorelDRAW, Photoshop, Figma, and Canva in the section above.
What is the difference between DPI and PPI?
DPI (dots per inch) is the number of ink dots per inch of material and is a printer specification. PPI (pixels per inch) is the number of pixels per inch of screen and describes a monitor or display. In everyday use, designers use both terms interchangeably, but technically DPI applies to print and PPI to screens.
