Why convert TIFF to WebP?

TIFF files are used in professional print and archival workflows but are impractical for the web — they are extremely large and not supported by any browser natively. WebP offers excellent compression (25–35% smaller than JPG, 50–70% smaller than PNG at equivalent quality) and is supported by all modern browsers.

Converting TIFF to WebP is essential when preparing professional images for web publishing, e-commerce product listings, or portfolios. WebP supports both lossy and lossless compression, alpha transparency, and millions of colors.

WebP uses lossy compression by default, so some pixel-level detail may differ from the original TIFF. For archival purposes, keep the original TIFF. For web display, WebP provides the optimal balance between quality and file size.

All processing happens locally in your browser — nothing is sent to any server. No registration, no limits, no watermarks.

How to convert TIFF to WebP

  1. Upload your TIFF file

Drag and drop your TIFF image onto the converter area or click to browse your device. You can add multiple files at once for batch conversion.
  2. Set the quality

The Set WebP quality slider takes values from 60 to 95 percent, default 80. A lower value gives a lighter file, a higher one keeps more detail. Then click Convert.
  3. Download WebP

The Download button next to a file saves it on its own, and Download all packs all finished files into one ZIP archive. With a single finished file no archive is made, the file downloads directly.

When should you convert TIFF to WebP?

  1. Website optimization

TIFF files cannot be displayed in web browsers and are extremely large. Converting to WebP creates web-optimized images that are 50–70% smaller than equivalent JPG or PNG files.
  2. Every recipient has to open the file

Email clients and older graphics programs do not display WebP files yet. For a photo going by email or into such a program use the TIFF to JPG converter.
  3. Web page

WebP loads faster than TIFF: the test photo weighed 576.9 KB against 6.08 MB. All current browsers read it.
  4. The file is still going back for editing

Every further save in a lossy format removes some detail. When the image is still going into an editor, keep the original TIFF file and convert only the final version.

What makes this TIFF to WebP converter different?

  1. Complete privacy

Your TIFF files are processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to any server – your images stay on your device at all times.
  2. Many files at once

Add any number of TIFF files, each up to 100 MB. The converter processes them one by one and shows the status of each.
  3. Quality slider

The Set WebP quality slider from 60 to 95 percent, default 80. Next to every file you see the size before and after conversion, and under the list the total for the whole queue.
  4. Download in one archive

The Download all button packs all finished files into one ZIP archive, so you do not have to approve a dozen downloads one after another.

Quality settings – what to choose when converting TIFF to WebP?

The quality slider lets you set a value from 60% to 95%. Higher values mean better image quality but larger file sizes.

  • 80% (default) – a good balance for most use cases: web publishing, blogs, portfolios. The visual difference compared to the original is virtually unnoticeable.
  • 85–90% – for product photography and galleries where quality is the priority.
  • 60–70% – when minimizing file size is the priority, e.g. thumbnails or category grids.

TIFF files are typically very large (20–50 MB). At 80% quality, WebP reduces them to 300–800 KB — a 95%+ reduction that makes web publishing practical.

How much does a file weigh after converting TIFF to WebP?

Three test files went through this converter at the default settings, that is at 80 percent quality: a photo of 1280 × 1659 pixels, a screenshot of 1920 × 1060 pixels and a 512 × 512 pixel icon with a transparent background. Sizes are given exactly as the tool counts them: kilobytes and megabytes of 1024, with the same rounding.

Frequently asked questions about TIFF to WebP conversion

Is converting TIFF to WebP free?

Yes, this TIFF to WebP converter is completely free with no limits. You can convert as many files as you need without registration or watermarks.

Does the converter upload my files to a server?

No. All processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript and Canvas API. Your files never leave your device, ensuring complete privacy and security.

Will I lose quality when converting TIFF to WebP?

Yes, WebP from this converter is saved lossy, at the quality set by the Set WebP quality slider (default 80 percent). At that value the difference is invisible on screen, while at 60 percent fine detail starts to blur. The encoder has no lossless mode.

Can I convert multiple TIFF files at once?

Yes, the converter supports batch conversion. You can add multiple TIFF files and convert them all to WebP simultaneously. Use the batch download option to save all converted files at once.

Do all browsers support WebP?

Yes. Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Opera have displayed WebP for years, and Safari since version 14 on macOS Big Sur (2020) and iOS 14.

What is the maximum file size?

Each file may be up to 100 MB; a larger one stops on the list with a message that it is too large. The number of files in the queue is not limited, and large images take longer because the browser decodes them fully into memory.

Does the converter work on mobile devices?

Yes, the converter works on any device with a modern web browser, including smartphones and tablets. The interface adapts to your screen size for a comfortable experience on any device.

How do I download all files at once?
