Convert millilitres to pints
Five hundred millilitres is 1.0567 US liquid pints, 0.9081 US dry pints and 0.8799 imperial pints. Type the millilitres and the result appears straight away. You set the pint with the switcher below the fields. Entering 375 ml from an American bottle gives 0.7925 of a pint.
How many pints is 500 ml?
Five hundred millilitres is 1.0567 US liquid pints. A pint holds 473.18 millilitres[1], and the formula reads: pints = millilitres ÷ 473.176473.
The same divisor works for sizes printed on labels. A 250-millilitre glass gives 0.5283 of a pint. A 750-millilitre wine bottle is 1.5850 pints. A litre gives 2.1134 pints.
The pint you pick changes the result. The difference grows with the volume. Five litres is 10.5669 US pints. The same volume gives 8.7988 imperial pints. You set the pint with the Pint type switcher below the fields, and the divisor changes with your choice.
An American cup of 236.59 millilitres is exactly half a liquid pint[1]. Two cups, or 473.18 millilitres, therefore give one full pint in the converter.
You can turn pints back into millilitres with the pints to millilitres converter, and the millilitres to quarts converter gives the result in quarts.
What is a millilitre and what is a pint?
In the metric system a thousand millilitres make one litre. Since 1964 the word litre may be used as a special name for the cubic decimetre[2], so a millilitre has the same volume as a cubic centimetre.

The pint comes from the English systems of measurement and has three values today. In the United States sixteen fluid ounces make a liquid pint of 28.875 cubic inches[1], which is 473.176473 millilitres[3].
In the United Kingdom a pint is 20 British fluid ounces and 568.26125 millilitres[3]. The third value, 550.6104713575 millilitres, belongs to the US dry pint. It is half of the dry quart in the American series of dry measures[1].
How to convert ml to pints: the formula and an example
Divide the number of millilitres by 473.176473 and you get US liquid pints.
Take a drink in a 330-millilitre bottle. Three hundred and thirty divided by 473.176473 gives 0.6974 of a US pint. Two such bottles hold 660 millilitres, which is 1.3948 pints.
Cancelling units gives the same result: 330 ml × (1 pt ÷ 473.176473 ml) = 0.6974 pt. The millilitre in the numerator cancels the millilitre in the denominator, and pints are left.

The Pint type switcher fills in the divisor for you, including when you change the option after a number is already typed.
Smaller amounts in American cups are handled by the millilitres to cups converter.

Which number formats does this converter handle?
| What you type | What the converter shows | How we read it |
|---|---|---|
| 473.18 | 1 US pt | The point is the decimal separator, so this is 473.18 millilitres, which is one US pint. |
| 473,18 | 1 US pt | A comma followed by two digits is read as a European decimal comma, so the result is the same. |
| 1,500 | 3.1701 US pt | Three digits after the comma mark a thousands separator, so we count one thousand five hundred millilitres. A note under the field shows the other possible reading, 1.5. |
| 1 500 | 3.1701 US pt | A space between the thousands is skipped, so this is one thousand five hundred millilitres, or one and a half litres. |
| 0.5 l | 1.0567 US pt | The field turns litres written with the l symbol into millilitres itself, so you can type half a litre without any maths. |
| 500 ml | 1.0567 US pt | A unit pasted along with the number doesn’t get in the way, so we count five hundred millilitres. |
| 16 fl oz | 1 US pt | The field recognises fluid ounces from a US label by the fl oz symbol and converts them straight away: sixteen ounces make one pint. |
How do you convert the size on a label into pints?
The steps start with the number printed on the pack and end with a result in pints that you can use elsewhere.
Read the size in millilitres
The label gives the size in millilitres or in litres. Type a figure in litres together with the l symbol, for example 1.75 l, and the field turns it into 1,750 millilitres itself.Type the number into the Millilitres field
The result appears as you type. The field accepts a decimal point or a comma, and it also takes 1,750 written with a thousands separator.Set the pint of the country you are converting to
The US liquid option matches the pint used in the United States, and the Imperial (UK) option matches the pint of the United Kingdom. The line under the switcher gives the volume of each of the three pints in millilitres.Copy the result or reverse the calculation
The Copy result button puts the number of pints on the clipboard. The Swap order button takes you to the pints to millilitres converter, and the Clear all button empties both fields.
Why is a 375 ml bottle called a pint in the US?
A 375-millilitre bottle is 0.7925 of a US pint. In American usage it is considered a metric pint[5]. It is 98.18 millilitres short of a full liquid pint.

Metric sizes for bottles of distilled spirits were proposed in 1975 by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms together with the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States. The new sizes were to take effect in January 1979[7].
Since 10 January 2025 the list of authorized sizes has included, among other new sizes, 475, 570 and 945 millilitres[8]. The first is 1.82 millilitres more than the US liquid pint. The second is 1.74 millilitres more than the imperial pint. The third is 1.35 millilitres below the US quart.

Frequently asked questions about millilitres and pints
How do I enter a size given in litres or centilitres?
Type the number together with its unit symbol, and the field turns it into millilitres itself. A bottle marked 0.7 l gives 1.4794 US pints, and a 75 cl bottle gives 1.585 pints. The liters to pints converter gives pints straight from a figure in litres.
Does the result depend on what I pour in?
The converter works with volume, so 500 millilitres of water, milk or oil is always 1.0567 US pints. The weight of those drinks differs, because each has its own density.
How do I turn a result in pints into fluid ounces?
Multiply a US pint by 16 and an imperial pint by 20[1]. A 500-millilitre bottle is 1.0567 US pints, or 16.91 fluid ounces. The millilitres to fluid ounces converter does that in one step.
Why does the result field show four decimal places?
One millilitre is 0.0021 of a US pint. Four decimal places therefore separate sizes that differ by a few millilitres, such as a 473 ml can and a full pint of 473.18 ml.
